Exercise: Travel guides
Your brief is to produce three illustrations for a series of book jackets, at the size of an existing travel guide, for the locations Istanbul, Helsenki and Milan.
The client would like you to create illistrations in wich many elements are brought toggether in a diagrammatic way. They would also like the type to be hand-drawn in an appropriate style.
Provide visuals for all three covers and a mock-up for one.
Unfortunatelly, I haven’t been neither to Milan nor to Istanbul yet. I’ve been only to helsenki. So I do really know what is this city like. As for two other cities I had to find out about them from the internet.
First of all I decided to make a moodboard for each city.
Istanbul
Colours: Red, white, black or blue, white, red

I’ve decided that the cover for Istanbul guide should look like a Turkish carpet with a pattern containing camels, mosques, hookahs and other Turkey specific attributes.
I like this one
Milan
Milan is one of the oldest and biggest cities in Italy and it’s football capital. The main showplace of the city is Milan Cathedral. It is the largest church in Italy. So it means that it should be definitely placed on the cover of the guide for Milan, along with soccer ball. On the photos Milan looks like a beautiful and bright city, so the cover should be in tender pastel colours.

I decided to make a mock-up for Helsinki travel guide, because I’ve been to this city many times. It seems to me that its much easier to make a cover for the travel guide of the city where you’ve been yourself.
