Exercise: Your own work
Most of the work you’ve created so far has been as a result of specific exercises with clear objectives defining the outcome. However, every drawing, every mark, every image you produce belongs to you and, as your property, has a potential value beyond the satisfying of a brief or exercise.
Go through the artwork you’ve created so far for this course. Review your sketchbooks, notebooks, working drawings and sketches as well as the more ‘resolved’ or finished pieces. And after that create a set of work that you enjoy.
I’ve gone through my works and that’s what I’ve chosen.
.
.
.
Choose from one of the areas of authorial practice and select an image from your gallery that would be appropriate for that area. Remember that you also need to identify an audience for your work within the area you’ve chosen.
• Decorative illustration
• Fanzines and artists’ books
• Children’s publishing
• Fashion and accessories
• Editorial
• Artist’s prints and artworks
If you can, implement the choices you’ve made and actually produce the artefact.

In fact, I’ve wanted to make something with my own print on it for long. However, this desire hasn’t ever been realized. Perhaps, it happened because I couldn’t decide neither which print to take nor which surface to cover. And in addition it didn’t come to my mind to use my previous works that were already had been done for this course. Although it’s a good idea. So I’m glad that through this idea I finally have a chance to create something unique by my own. What’s left to consider what thing to select and what to print on it.
.
For example I can buy a cloth, print the selected image on it and after that to sew a plain shopper bag. I have recently bought a sewing machine and I’ll be happy to use it.
.
There’s a pretty set of bags with apple prints. I may choose one of them for the further realization.

Fruit and vegetable prints would be nice for the kitchen textile
I’d rather see them on dishcloth, tablecloth, oven mitts and aprons.
Target audience: Mostly housewives. By the way, everybody has a kitchen and simply cares about it’s look.

Also I very admire stickers and I always know how to use it. I could print such stickers.

Target audience: People who like funny stickers

I hardly could determine what to choose and therefore I made a decision to calculate how much every option would approximately cost me.
.
Small stickers are cheap per item but only in those print shops where they have a minimum number of copies and the minimum order amount. Which is actually not that little and it comes to 10$. There are not that many print shops where they print stickers per item. And where they charge for it ten times more.
.
It’s easier with stickers for laptops. So they usually print them per item without any problems. But the price of one of the stickers is usually equal to the minimum order amount of small stickers.
.
I also add it up that if I planned to print on the cloth for a bag it would be worth about 10$ too.
.
Well, if the price goes everywhere the same so I can simply make what’s more to my liking.
…
I’ve decided to print stickers. I finally managed to find a place to print them cheap in any amount needed. For 5 rubles per sticker. I’ve printed 25 pieces and started to presented them to friends. It costed me only 2$!
I’ve placed one of them on a mirror on my cupboard.
